What is it?
Google Fiber is a gigabit Internet service boasting speeds up to 100 times faster than normal broadband, making activities such as video chatting and big file downloads easier. AT&T says with its gigabit service a consumer can download 25 songs in a second, a TV show in 3 seconds and an HD movie in 36 seconds.
When is it coming?
In the best-case scenario, construction could begin this summer, said Phil Reiger, assistant director of Charlotte’s Department of Transportation. Google has declined to give a tighter time frame.
How much will it cost?
In existing cities, $70 for high-speed Internet, $120 to $130 for TV and Internet and free basic service with a $300 construction fee. Katherine Peralta
