John Mines passed away unexpectedly on January 23rd. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years (Sally Modeen Mines). Surviving children: Ed Mines of Atlanta, Melissa Elder (husband Lynn) of Charlotte, NC, and Sally Nilsson (husband Lennart) of Raleigh, NC.
John was born in Burnt Corn, AL but grew up in Atlanta, GA. He attended The Georgia Military Academy as a young man, and both Georgia State and Georgia Tech.
John won countless awards from his many years as a salesman/National Sales Manager with The Wrigley Gum Company, 3M, H. S. Crocker, and New Jersey Packaging, New Jersey Machine.
John had many interests including history (Civil War), antique rifles and guns, restoring a 1926 Ford Model T, and traveling. John never met a stranger and everyone he met loved his southern manner and his countless entertaining stories.

John was involved in the church with his wife Sally. They volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and various committees over the years, and were members of the Scandinavian Club.
John will be overwhelmingly missed but his spirit and love will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of those he touched along life’s path.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM at the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2723 Clark Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27607.
