Dwight Russell Holderfield, 62, of Pinehurst, NC, passed on February 13, 2015, surrounded by family. Dwight was born on October 8, 1952 in Raleigh, NC, where he was raised. He grew up with his two beloved brothers playing in the woods and ball fields of south Raleigh. He graduated from Cary High School, then attended Harbarger School for Fashion Merchandising. Through his studies, he met his dear wife, Mary Gunderson Holderfield, originally of Northfield, MN. Dwight enjoyed his work at Womble's Clothing Store where he sold suits to many prominent businessmen from all over the country. He started his 40 year career in the car business in 1975. After 12 years at Bobby Murray Chevrolet and then Al Smith Buick, he moved to Pinehurst, NC and was an integral part in the start of Pinehurst Toyota, a family business. He excelled in many responsibilities including sales, sales management and business management. His fellow associates loved, appreciated and respected his many contributions to the growth of Pinehurst Toyota in his 28 years of leadership.
Dwight was an excellent cook, and loved sharing food and grilling out with his family. His mother instilled in him a love of plants and nature that he carried through his entire life. Family meant everything to Dwight. His pride and joy were his two sons, Jeremy and Aaron.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Mack and Marie White Holderfield of Raleigh. He is survived by his wife Mary, of Pinehurst, son Jeremy (Alanna) of Winston-Salem, son Aaron of Aberdeen, his brothers Tommy (Kathy) and family of Pinehurst and Mike (Linden) and family of Southern Pines and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1:00 pm, at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC, with a graveside service to follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, NC. Contributions may be made to FirstHealth Hospice House of Moore County, 150 Applecross rd , Pinehurst, NC 28374; or to Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, 3395 Airport Rd., Pinehurst, NC, 28374.
