Al Wilson, 70, died unexpectedly on February 19, 2015. He was born in Tampa, FL on June 20, 1944 to the late Albert Leo, Sr. and Minnie Ruth Wilson.
Al loved sports and spent many years as a pitcher in modified pitch softball where he was proud to have pitched in the 1980 national championship game. After his competitive softball years, and retiring from the US Postal Service, Al enjoyed playing tennis, golfing with his buddies, fishing, going to “the races”, watching (and talking) baseball, and spending time with his family. As much as Al loved sports, his true passion was people. “Big Al” never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone he encountered feel special. Al had a genuine interest in everyone around him and found true and lasting friendships in the unlikeliest of places. He was a kind and generous soul who made a quiet impact on many lives.
Al leaves behind Brenda Wilson, loving wife of nearly 30 years; daughter and son in law Cindy and Allan Cheatham of Shallotte, NC; son and daughter in law Doug and Judie Wilson of Walnut Creek, CA; grandsons Lane and Liam Wilson; granddaughters Elizabeth and Catherine Cheatham; step daughters Renee and Jeremy Simmons, Kelly and Dan Jennings of Wake Forest, and many more friends and family who will miss him dearly.
