Van S. Massey, age 84, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Jackson-Madison General Hospital in Tennessee.
He was born on September 7, 1930, in Wake County, North Carolina. His parents were the late Frances Creech and Kermit Creech. Mr. Massey is survived by his sisters Clara Bunn and Emma Rogers, and brother, Bob Creech. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Creech, and sister, Louise Tate.
On February 23, 1951 Mr. Massey was married to Helen Parrish Massey, who passed away in January 1996. They left an enduring family legacy of faith in God. Their survivors include their children, Rick and his wife Elaine Massey, and Greg and his wife Kelda Massey; grandchildren Danae and her husband Shaun Casteel, Vanessa and her husband Jeremy Hegi, Eli and Riley Massey; and great-grandchild Elaina Casteel.
Mr. Massey’s work career spanned nearly half a century. As a young man he worked first as a plumber, then a pipe fitter. For the last 35 years of his career until his retirement in August 1999, he worked as a facilities designer.
He was a member of the Pine Valley church of Christ in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he served as an elder.
Visitation with the family is at McLaurin Funeral Home, in Clayton, North Carolina, on Wednesday, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Massey will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Haiti Education Program at Estes Church of Christ, PO Box 191, Henderson, Tennessee 38340.
