Through thick and thin she never let anyone down, and most of all Shirley never let herself down. Following an extensive time of living overseas, in 1999 Shirley retired from the business world and returned from mainland China to Pittsboro, North Carolina. After a short time back home she was widowed, being very independent and wanting to stay active she went back to work for a good number of years for the Kerr Drug store pharmacy in Pittsboro until declining health slowed her down and she retired once more.
