Emma Oline Phillips, 96, died March 18, 2015 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
Oline was the daughter of the late Carl E. Sloop, Sr. and Mary Mae Wiley Sloop. She graduated from China Grove High School and attended Catawba College.
She was a founding member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chapel Hill where she served as the church's organist for many years. At various times she was a public school secretary, day care co-owner, antiques shop co-owner and piano teacher. She continued to enjoy playing the piano until her hospitalization.
She was an ardent member of the Republican Women's Club.
She is survived by her son, David Carl Phillips (Ona); granddaughters Karen Park and Kathryn Hocevar; grandsons Matt Park and Johnson Phillips; three great-grandchildren and brother Carl E. Sloop, Jr.
She was predeceased by husband James M. Phillips, daughter Sharon Phillips Belrose, and sisters Kathryn S. Valenski, Evelyn S. Teeter and Edith S. Deal.
Interment took place on Saturday, March 21 at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 South Main St., China Grove, N.C.
