Mr. Marvin Dayton Hill, 97, of Dunn died Friday, March 27, 2015 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. He was born on December 13, 1917 in Johnston Co., near Benson, son of the late E.P. “Bud” & Martha Godwin Hill. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elva Jernigan Hill; daughter, Melinda Carol Hill; sisters, Martha Hill and India Philley; brothers, Robert S. Hill and Edward Hill.
After his parents death at age 9 he was reared by his uncle and aunt, Timothy and Irene Hill. He enjoyed life, reading, his garden and was benefited with good health and the ability to continue living an independent life until several weeks before his death. Mr. Hill was a graduate of Meadow High School, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and a farmer.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Cheryl Benson and Rev. John Gupton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee-Johnson Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Hill Thomas and husband Bernice of Cary, granddaughter, Tina Thomas Whitmore and husband Barry of Raleigh, two great grandsons Blake and Tyson Whitmore of Raleigh, sister, Lucy Todd of Lillington, nieces and nephews, their families, and several special friendships that have enhanced his life.
