Florine Currin Butler, 90, formerly of Rowland, died March 29, 2015, at Summit Place, Little River, SC. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, April 2 at Ashpole Presbyterian Church, Rowland NC with the Revs. Charles Monroe and Wayne Farrah officiating.
Mrs. Butler was born December 14, 1924 in Oxford, NC to the late Grady Carl and Dena Piper Currin. She graduated from Rowland High School, Peace College and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in Ashpole Presbyterian Church serving as Deacon, Elder, Clerk of the Session, Sunday School teacher, President of the Women of the Church, Church Treasurer and chairperson of the church's 175th anniversary committee. She was on the NC Advisory Committee for the Area Health Education Center. She received a Distinguished Alumna Award from Peace College, held offices in the Alumnae Association and served on the Peace College Board of Trustees. She worked as a customer sales representative at BB&T.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James McIntyre Butler of Rowland. She is survived by two daughters, Betsy Butler Ward and husband Wes of Little River, SC and Dena Grace (Mackie) Butler Pate and husband Jimmy of Rowland; three grandchildren, John Wesley (Jay) Ward IV and wife Kimberly of Winston-Salem, James McIntyre (Mack) Ward and wife Michelle of Greenville, SC and Mary Katherine Pate of Rowland; four great-grandchildren, Grace Carroll Ward, John Wesley Ward V, James McIntyre Ward II and Weston Slater Ward.
