John went to be with his Lord and Savior suddenly Saturday evening, March 28th at his home in Wake Forest. He was born on April 27 in Washington County, Alabama, son of the late Roland Baxter and Katie Ann Barnes Baxter. He was also preceded in death by his sister Wilma Baxter. John loved his family and is survived by his wife Lavay Moss Baxter, sons Stephen Travis Baxter and wife Mary Esther Baxter, David Russell Baxter and wife Elizabeth Powell Baxter, grandchildren Georgia Lavay Baxter, Allison Elizabeth Baxter, Abigail Marie Baxter, Stephanie Ann Baxter, and Travis Pressley Baxter, brother Kenneth Baxter (Ann), and sisters Margean Cozad (Jack), Annette Caten, and Betty Moorer (Jimmy), and many nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Washington County High School in Chatom, Alabama, served in the U. S. Navy, graduated from the Rollins College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics, and worked as an engineer with IBM for 33 years. He was an active member of Neuse Baptist Church since 1978. He made himself ready and available to serve the Lord and anyone else with a need. No one loved his wife, sons, and grandchildren more.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, and the funeral service will take place at the same location at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2015.
