Mrs. Mary Eakes Fullenwider, 93, wife of the late Phifer Fullenwider, Jr., died Wednesday morning at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Fullenwider was born in Durham. She was educated in the Greenville County (SC) schools and attended Kings Business College. Mrs. Fullenwider was employed for many years as a secretary. She served as Vice President of Eakes Cleaners in Durham, and was a member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and also volunteered with the Board of Elections. Mrs. Fullenwider was a very active member of Watts Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fullenwider is survived by her children, Kendall Powers, and her husband, Darrell of Highfalls, NC, Phifer Fullenwider III, and his wife, Laurel, of Durham; grandchildren, Darren Powers, and his wife Maria, Joseph Fullenwider, Justin Powers, and his wife, Jodie, Christina Powers, and her husband, Nathan Hifko, Clark Powers, and Derek Powers; great grandchildren, Alex Fullenwider, Owen Powers, Harper Hifko, Cayden Powers, Darby Powers, and Hudson Hifko.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dorisanne Cooper. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
