Iris Lee Lowery Dickinson, 85, of Wake Forest, died Monday, March 30, 2015. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Emily Mangum Lowery and Joseph Fred Lowery and was married to William Dickinson who preceded her in death. Mrs. Dickinson was retired from the NC Department of Correction after 30 years of service and also worked on week-ends for many years at Hillhaven Convalescent Center.
One of Iris’ favorite activities was riding through the countryside, especially around the Falls Community where she was born, raised and lived a majority of her life. She enjoyed seeing cows and horses and budding crops in the spring and full-grown crops in the fall. She loved fall colors and spring blooms. Because she had worked in tobacco as a child, everytime she saw a tobacco field she would say something like “glad it is them and not me.”
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2015 at the Falls Community Cemetery, 12165 Falls of Neuse Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
Mrs. Dickinson is survived by her sons, Marvin Dickinson and Steve Dickinson of Wake Forest, and Charles Dickinson of Youngsville; special friend, Teresa Dillard. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Linwood Lowery, Haywood Lowery and Wayne lowery and by her sister, Lorene Goodwin.
