Mr. Dennis Brummitt, 87, loving brother, uncle and friend, passed away April 26, 2015 at his home in Raleigh.
Dennis Brummitt was born December 19, 1927, in the Gray Rock community of Granville County, NC. He was the fifth of seven children born to Nathaniel Clay Brummitt and Annie Belle Harris Brummitt. Dennis was raised in a farming family and learned his faith, family values and strong work ethic from his parents who were also long-serving members of Corinth Baptist Church.
Dennis married his childhood sweetheart, Vada Jane Cutts, on May 25, 1951. They were passionate about golf and enjoyed vacations, home projects and entertaining family and friends with wonderful stories, Christmas letters and numerous poems written by Jane. Dennis and Vada Jane remained devoted to each other throughout their lives.
Dennis was a veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Army Feb 26, 1946 - Aug 26, 1947. After his service, he returned to the family farm in Granville County. He began his 35-year sales career with Armour Food Company in 1953 serving customers in Wake, Franklin, Henderson and Granville counties. In the 1960s, Dennis was given responsibility for the Ft. Bragg and Seymour Johnson AFB accounts and additional customers in eastern North Carolina.

Mr. Brummitt is survived by his sister Pat B. Cokewell, North Bend, WA; brother-in-law John E. (Jack) Tefft, Virginia Beach, VA; one sister-in-law Frances M. Brummitt of Youngsville, NC, 10 nieces and nephews; 32 great nieces and nephews; and 23 great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brummitt was pre-deceased by his wife, Vada Jane Cutts Brummitt, his parents, Nat C. and Belle H. Brummitt, a brother, Nathaniel T. Brummitt, four sisters, Mary Frances Brummitt, Evelyn B. Tefft, Isabel C. Brummitt, and Ann B. Averitt, two brothers-in-law, Ransom S. Averitt, and Robert T. Cokewell, a sister-in-law, Dorothy J. Brummitt, and one niece, Anne dela Vergne.
A graveside service and visitation will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Carolina Memorial Gardens, 102 Moss Rd., Creedmoor, NC 27522. A separate memorial service will be held later at a date and location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Brummitt may be made to a charity or hospice of your choice.
