Betty Carson Dunn died peacefully Wednesday in Durham, NC, after a period of declining health. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 51 years, Everette Matthews Dunn; her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Nathan Thielman; her grandchildren, MaryMac and Hayes; and her faithful caregiver, Nellie Bullock.
Betty grew up in Raleigh, where her father was the minister of Westminster Presbyterian Church--and graduated from high school in Sanford. She attended Flora McDonald College, earned a teaching degree at East Carolina University, and taught elementary school in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Betty lived a life of service: opening up her home to people in need, teaching deaf children, caring for a foster child, going on short-term missions trips, and reading the Bible to her grandchildren. Every morning she prayed for her family in the name of Jesus, and she loved to read and teach the Bible.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at noon on Saturday, May 2, at Gaither Chapel in Montreat, North Carolina. A reception will follow immediately in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Betty Dunn Fund, ? World Missions Committee, Christ Community Church, P.O. Box 279, Montreat, NC 28757.
