Mendia Elizabeth Ellis Hinson ended her life journey on April 22, 2015 at The Oaks of Mayview in Raleigh, where she was well cared for by the Mayview staff and Transitions Hospice. She was born in Wilson, NC on November 8, 1941 to James B. and Sylvia Ellis. She attended Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson and moved to Raleigh in 1965.
Mendia was always the “people person”, enjoying spending time with friends and talking with them on the phone. The highlight of her week was going to The Finishing Touch Salon and having Sheila do her hair.
She had a real talent for the arts and crafts and spent time doing ceramics, sewing, and knitting.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James Hinson of Raleigh; son, David Hinson of Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Vicky Ellis of Lucama, NC; sister-in-law, Joan Johnson of High Point, NC; niece, Robin Luper of Eureka, NC; nieces Sarah, Aubrey, Bryenlee, and Holland Carey, all of Smithfield, NC.
Never miss a local story.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM in the chapel of The Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC.
