James W. Adams, 76, of Cary, passed away at 1:09pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living, Cary. His memorial service will be at 11am, May 9, 2015 at Westhigh Church in Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Habitat for Humanity.
James Wallace Adams was born April 21, 1939 in Hartford, CT, the son of Joseph P. and Aila Jewel Adams. He graduated from Naperville Central High School in 1957, received his undergraduate degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and his graduate degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. He was an elementary school principal for 35 years in the Chicago suburbs; most of that time was at Hammerschmidt Elementary in Lombard, Illinois. The Illinois State Board of Education presented Jim with an Award of Excellence on October 8, 1994, for outstanding contributions to Illinois Education. Jim spent the last ten years enjoying retirement in Cary, NC with his wife Sandy. He often said we are all life-long learners. Jim volunteered on many Habitat for Humanity projects. He was always active in his Christian faith, serving in many churches, including several mission trips to South Africa and Jamaica. Jim was a very kind, generous, and compassionate man. He enjoyed life and laughter. He loved his family and spending time with them.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy Adams, children Jeff (Linda) Adams of Woodridge, Illinois, Julie (James) Schreiber of Normal, Illinois, step-children Leigh (David) McKay of Cary, NC, Travis (Katie) Taylor of Chenoa, Illinois, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
