Hurricanes to open season Oct. 4 against Islanders
The Carolina Hurricanes will face the New York Islanders in the 2018-19 season opener, Oct. 4 at PNC Arena, in Rod Brind'Amour's first game as the Canes' head coach.
The home openers for the 31 NHL teams were announced Wednesday. The Columbus Blue Jackets host the Hurricanes on Oct. 5 in their home opener.
The full NHL schedule will be released Thursday.
The Canes-Islanders game will have a 7 p.m. start. It’s the second straight season, and fourth time in the past five years, Carolina will begin a season at home. The Canes hosted the Islanders Oct. 10, 2014.
