Fuquay-Varina High School students gain critical mass in the parking lot outside Bengal Stadium before a Friday night football game against Harnett Central. The core group of friends, who refer to themselves as the high school’s only fraternity, tailgated until seconds before kickoff, and soon proved to be the Bengals’ liveliest fans. “We’re gonna do it every game,” said Tina Harrell, who put the final touches on the “V” in “Fuquay-Varina” for Kurt Campau while David Proctor, the “Y,” grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and “U,” Seth Schachle, burst out laughing: all moments in a pregame ritual that consumed the 14 teenagers. “We just have a good time,” said Josh Faw. ‘It’s all about high school. Live it while you can!” The game didn’t go the fans’ way, though. Harnett Central’s Trojans defeated the Bengals, 28-12.
