Metamorphosis

Keean Lee, 9, and his sister, Annie, 6, giggle as they wrestle on the family's backyard hammock in Raleigh.

"I don't know," responds Keean when asked what he likes about being a sibling. Annie makes a face and begins copying her brother's every move.

"When she was first born she was crying a lot. She was really loud. She sounded like, 'wahhhhh,'" imitates Keean. "I was just a little toddler then," he explains. She smiles slyly and leans into him.

The siblings say they enjoy "dressing up, playing in the hammock and cooking stuff like pancakes" together. Their relationship is loud and playful as they run down the street shouting to each other to join neighborhood friends, but it is also warm and quiet with the companionship of close siblings as they snuggle alongside one another to read before bedtime.

Listen to siblings Keean and Annie Lee joke around at their Raleigh home.
