Having just turned 90 years old, Hale Stevenson (foreground) prowls a Habitat for Humanity of Durham construction site looking for things needing to be done. Stevenson, who retired to Durham 25 years ago, has volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity for the last 10 years as part of the organization's elite group of elderly volunteers. "We call ourselves The Geezers!" declared Stevenson as he hauled a heavy stack of vinyl siding to its destination. "I've helped build over 100 houses during my time here." When asked why someone who is just a decade from reaching the title of centurion is still on the construction site swinging a hammer, Stevenson get serious. "Three points - first, work is good for you. Second, I like to work. Third, I like helping someone to get into a home."

The column is a celebration of the struggles, triumphs and tears we experience as we travel from birth to death. Our goal was to document moments in time that might otherwise be missed; sometimes it's the tiniest incident in one's life that has the most profound effect. When on assignment for the column, we looked for that one photo that tells a whole story. Some are the result of a found moment we came across on our daily assignments or our daily existence. For others, we thought of a specific event, like a first haircut or last dance, and sought out a subject who might illustrate the idea.
