Stephanie Johnston, 32, of Mooresville, NC, searches for the perfect wedding dress under the guidance of Paula Avery of Bridal Mart in Burlington, NC. Never married before, Stephanie said she felt well equipped for her first foray into the tradition-laden bridal territory. "I'm prepared to go the whole day and tomorrow if I have to," she said, wrestling an off-the-shoulder gown into place. "I've got a pretty good idea of what I want, thanks to the Internet. Thank the Lord for Yahoo." Full of energy, Stephanie tried on dress after dress for an hour and a half until slamming to a dead stop. Putting her hands to her sides, she stared into the mirror and declared, "I... like... this one." Speaking of the Internet, how did Stephanie meet Mr. Right, aka Jon Locklin, a computer programmer for Duke Energy? "Well," she began, stifling a laugh. "I met Jon on an online dating service."

The column is a celebration of the struggles, triumphs and tears we experience as we travel from birth to death. Our goal was to document moments in time that might otherwise be missed; sometimes it's the tiniest incident in one's life that has the most profound effect. When on assignment for the column, we looked for that one photo that tells a whole story. Some are the result of a found moment we came across on our daily assignments or our daily existence. For others, we thought of a specific event, like a first haircut or last dance, and sought out a subject who might illustrate the idea.
