Maha Kailani, left, Imane Jamili and Sarah Oraby, all 16-years-old, joke around while getting ready to bowl at Cary's AMF bowling alley after attending Friday prayer at the Islamic Center of Raleigh. "Ours is safe fun and boyfriend free," Imane Jamili says. "Guys are not that important for us now; we have better things to do. We girls do things together and the boys do things on their own. We can talk, but there can be no flirtation. We don't date or drink. The unity between us is closer." Her friend, Ayesha Ali, said, "I see guys at school not respecting the girls. Muslim guys respect girls. You talk to a girl for marriage, not for fun."
About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
