Jimmie Moore, 51, a local artist and former lab technician turned professional lawnmower, works the yard of an empty house in Raleigh as part of his current landscaping job. "I worked as a lab technician for 26 years, but was downsized four years ago," he said. Now I'm self-employed, and I actually enjoy it. There's more flexibility, but you have to work much harder, because you have more responsability. The solitude is nice, though. I'm an oil painter and a fisherman, so this job suits me fine. Another good thing is that this job keeps me fit, I'm not as fat as I used to be."
About This Project

"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
