Four-year-old Branson can't help yawning while his father, Patrick Miller, reads a Dr. Seuss book to him and his brother, Angelo, 5, at the family's Raleigh home. Miller, a single dad, reads to his kids every night before they go to bed. "The most rewarding time with them was one Mother's Day while they attended day care together. There were muffins and coffee for the moms. I walked in and Branson said: 'Can we have muffins dad?' And I said: 'No Branson, those are for the moms.' 'But daddy, you are mommy and daddy, so you should get muffins too.' That made me feel so good. It meant I was doing my job. They had accepted the fact that daddy was taking care of them, that a dad can love them as much as a mom."

"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
