On July 31, Wake County Emergency Management, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, worked with local, state, and federal partners to execute a simulated mass-casualty disaster at the Army National Guard Armory at RDU International Airport. From left, Jim Chang, Duke Emergency Management Co-ordinator, Mary Anne Bosher, Clinical Operations Director for Duke Life Flight - Durham Base, and Tracey Koepke, Public Information Officer, brace themselves behind one of the Duke Life Flight helicopters against the winds stirred up by the arriving UNC-Chapel Hill Air Care Helicopter. "Life Flight takes pride in the services it provides to the Duke Health System and people in the surrounding communities," Bosher said. "We are very aware that in today's world we can be called upon at any time to provide critical care services with extremely short notice. It is important that we understand how to respond within the established Emergency Medical Services system and collaborate with other providers to insure the most effective and efficient use of the unique capabilities provided by the Life Flight team."
About This Project

"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
