Working high atop a lift, Steve Harvell, curator of exhibit design at the NC State Museum of Natural Sciences, performs a delicate cleaning on a massive Pleurocoelus dinosaur model in the Acro Dome. Weighing about 25 tons when alive, the prehistoric creature is just one of several in wing he has to refurbish. The glass space, which is more than 50 ft. high, will take Harvell about a week to clean. "It's very meticulous work. You can't get in a hurry," he said. "When I was a kid, I loved dinosaurs; I guess all kids do. When I'm working with the bones, it kinda takes me back in time."
About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
