Dejected and tired after the Democratic rally at the Raleigh Convention Center on election night, Kim Koda of Mount Olive and her 15-year-old daughter, Kayla, sensed the end was near for John Kerry. "It looks bad," said Kim Koda. "If Bush wins again, I said we would either move to Canada or Mexico." "I was mad that everything went downhill at the end," said Kayla, who got her mother involved in the Erskine Bowles and John Kerry campaigns through an honors civics class project. "I'm in the process of grieving," her mother added.

Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
