Just before heading back onto the field, Shaw University's head coach Deondri Clark quietly looked over his team's statistics in the back of the locker room at half time of The Pioneer Bowl VII Bowl. "I always say the score is zero-zero going back into the game," he said. Telling his team before going back out to play, "If they don't score, we win. We have 30 minutes of football and let's remember to play 30 minutes." Clearly, his philosophy worked. Shaw went onto win the Mobile, Ala., bowl game over Tuskegee University 30-28.

"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
