Elizabeth City State University Pep Band sousaphone players, Brandon Richberg, right, and Harry Stocks, perform during the CIAA tournament at the RBC Center. Richberg, a 19-year-old sophmore and a Greensboro native, has been playing the sousaphone since 6th grade and is now majoring in music industry studies, with a concentration in business administration. Quick to point out that the sousaphone, named for John Philip Sousa, isn't the same thing as a tuba, Richberg explains the tuba is for orchestral use and the sousaphone is for marching bands. "It's not that heavy," he said. "You carry it so long you just get used to it."
About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
