Katie Hawn and her husband Trevor "Sue" Hawn of Chapel Hill have the mezzanine of the Durham Armory all to themselves as they warm up before the Triangle Swing Dance Society's dance on Saturday evening January 21, 2006. "I've been swing dancing for seven years." Trevor said. "I met Katie my wife dancing in the dance community in Knoxville, Tennessee. We have traveled to Sweden to take lessons, and taught classes all over the Southeast," he added. The Hawns were rehearsing the steps of the "Lindy Hop", an original swing dance created in the 1920's. "What is so beautiful is that this dance grew from the music that was created at the time," Trevor added.

About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
