Twelve -year-old Amber Farrell stretches her legs with members of the Carolina Eagles Track & Field Club during their workout on Wednesday afternoon May 17, 2006 at the St. Augustine’s College track. Amber participates in the hurdles, as well as the 200 and 400 meter events. “The stretching is one of the most important things they teach us. It helps you go faster.” Amber said. Maureen Smith president of the club since 1990 describes the club’s mission: “As long as you do your best, that is what we’re after, we want good student athletes, and we want them to have a good time.” The Eagles began their training in April, meeting four days a week to prepare for local meets as well as the USA Track and Field Jr. Olympic Nationals in July in Baltimore.

About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
