John Boswell and Joe Westerlund haul burlap bags of coffee beans to the roasting area at the Larry's Beans facility in Raleigh. The manual hauling process will soon be a thing of the past. New wooden silos have been built at the Raleigh facility to hold beans from 15 countries. Every 20 minutes, another 80 to 100 pounds of beans are roasted. The company, specializing in organic, shade-grown, fair-trade coffee, was started by Larry Larson 12 years ago. Besides bringing quality beans to the public, the company aims to "inspire customers and businesses that they can make the world a better place by the small decisions they make."

About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
