Francie Woodin, 19, a debutante from Rocky Mount, takes a break to eat lunch during a rehearsal for the Debutante Ball at Meymandi Hall.
The highly decorated stools that the debutantes use are a long-standing tradition for the ball. "Everyone gets a stool because we sit for so long," Woodin said. Hers is the one with the rose right in front of her. Each girl has one made to fit her personality, and Woodin picked a Shoshone rose. "One of my mom's best friends lives on the reservation. We lived out West for 10 years, and we have a lot of history there," she said. The ball will be held tonight. |
