Neidra ‘Whitefire’ Clark spins two fire fans as she and partner Burke Stedman perform a fire dance in the backyard of television director Jack Durham’s Raleigh home. ‘We have learned that our performances have a profound effect on all ages, all walks of life,’ Clark says. ‘... People will come up to us with tears in their eyes following a performance. They have a feeling come over them that is spiritual in nature.’ Durham and his community television crew recorded the dance for Raleigh’s first 3-D telecast on RTN Channel 10. It will be broadcast at 5 p.m. today. How I got the shot I used a tripod and a long exposure of one-quarter of a second to capture the movement of the fire. I shot many exposures trying to capture a moment in which the dancers were still enough to see their faces and bodies, yet record the blur of the fire against the dark background.

About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
