Mike Helms of Cabarrus County displays his support for presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, with a vintage 1940s Ford pickup truck parked along N.C. 49. Thomas Hill of Concord gave Helms one of the signs and explains why Paul supporters are so passionate for their candidate. "I've followed Dr. Paul since 1988. He hasn't been tainted by the abuse of power and money in Washington; his record is spotless. Paul uses the Constitution as his basis of decision-making on every issue. I think that is why people love him so much; he stays true to his principles," said Hill, who is a candidate for the N.C. Senate, District 36 seat.

"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
