Before 7 a.m. one recent day, members of the N.C. State University women's cross country team and volunteer assistant coach Jemissa Hess, 22, foreground, who graduated from NCSU in May, stretched on mats lining a path into William B Umstead State Park off Old Reedy Creek Road. The 15 women and 18 men who run cross country for N.C. State train there at least twice a week. HOW I GOT THE SHOT I came across this group early one morning while running with a friend at Umstead. I checked with the coaches on their training schedule and returned the following week to make the photograph of the athletes warming up.
About This Project

Robert Willett
"The View" showcases the unique character of the people and places that form our community. The column explores the lives and relationships of the diverse groups that populate the Triangle. Anyone, regardless of age, race, cultural background or ethnicity, is a potential subject. We include the thoughts of those featured as they express how they view their own situation, allowing us a window into their lives.

Chris Seward
Our approach to finding stories for the column varies. Often, we look for subjects to illustrate themes we want to explore. Other times, we may stumble across interesting subjects while on assignment or in our daily lives. We hope readers can use "The View" to enhance their understanding of their own community.
