The leaves and temperatures dropped last Sunday, creating a visually striking combination of colorful maple leaves and sparkling frost in this scene north of Durham. In fact, a new record low temperature for that date was set when the mercury dipped to 25 degrees at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, two degrees lower than the old record set in 1995. The normal low is 42 degrees. The frosty conditions were short-lived though, as temperatures are expected to climb up to 78 degrees today and dip back down to the mid-60s on Sunday.
