Methodists and other people of faith will golf, bike and run this weekend to raise money for homeless agencies in Wake and Franklin counties as part of the fifth annual Race of Grace event.

The weekend activities unite 62 churches in the Raleigh district of the N.C. United Methodist Conference toward the goal of curbing homelessness.

Events begin today with a golf tournament called Links of Grace. On Saturday, participants can cycle 25 or 50 miles as part of the Tour de Grace. On Sunday there's a 5 kilometer run.

Participants are asked to solicit sponsors by giving out pledge cards to family and friends. In addition, there is a registration fee.

Money raised will be evenly distributed among three agencies: Haven House, a Raleigh-based residence for homeless and runaway children ages 10 to 17; Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network, which provides shelter and counseling for homeless families, and Safe Space, a Franklin County domestic violence shelter. Organizers said they hope to raise $80,000 during the three-day event.
