During 1965, the peak year for the Sidetrack coffeehouse, some of the most popular acts in the booming folk and blues movement came to Raleigh. You can seek out their recordings, reissued in CD, or listen online to brief selections from each.

"JUG BAND MUSIC"

From "Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band, Greatest Hits."

"DROP DOWN MAMA"

From "John Hammond, Best of the Vanguard Years."

"COUNTRY BLUES"

From "Trouble in Mind, Doc Watson Country Blues Collection."

Bob Dylan and Joan Baez didn't stop by the Sidetrack, despite hopes that they would, but they did play at Reynolds Coliseum in March 1965. The following recording shows how they sounded on that tour.

"MAMA, YOU'VE BEEN ON MY MIND"

From "The Bootleg Series, Vol. 6: Bob Dylan Live 1964 -- Concert at Philharmonic Hall."

Pete Stanley, a Vietnam veteran who was traveling the country picking and singing, recorded a night's performance at the Sidetrack, which was released in 1999 on the independent Talkeetna label. Find out more at talkeetna.com.

"DARLING COREY"
