Ladies, have you always wanted to take up running but been unsure of how to start?
The N.C. Roadrunners Club offers a women’s beginner running program starting July 9.
The program takes the intimidation out of running. (Full disclaimer: I’m a graduate of the program and occasionally return as a volunteer to encourage beginning runners.) The 10-week program trains runners to complete a 5K race at the Women’s Distance Festival on Sept. 21.
You are surrounded by dozens of women in your exact situation: you may be a newbie, have previously tried to start running but been sidelined by injuries or time constraints or you were once a regular runner but for whatever reason fallen out of the sport.

The beginners are divided into four groups to match the pace at which they run. Volunteers run with each group to offer support. There are at least four group runs a week in the morning, evenings and on the weekend to accommodate busy schedules. Once a week after a group run, beginners can stay for a talk by an expert on various running-related topics, including nutrition, injury prevention and self defense.
