This weekend there are opportunities to buy gently used toys and children’s clothes or to let your young ones check out a variety of symphonic instruments. Elsewhere, go learn about monarch butterfly migration or tour a fire station. (NOTE: Because of this weekend’s weather forecast, please check with venues before heading out to events.)

▪ UPDATED: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED BECAUSE OF RAIN. Celebrate monarch butterflies’ migration Saturday at Sandy Creek Park’s Second Annual Monarch Festival. The Durham park has everything monarchs need – that is, milkweed, nectar sources and shelter – as they travel south to Mexico. While you’re there, learn about butterfly biology, participate in family activities and buy a pollinator-friendly plant. This lasts 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and features a 2 p.m. parade and butterfly release. Visit keepdurhambeautiful.org.
▪ The North Carolina Symphony brings its Instrument Zoo to Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh Saturday, so bring the kids and let them make the music. This runs 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and includes a 1 p.m. performance by the Brio String Quartet. Museum admission is $5 per person, with those under 1 getting in free. Visit marbleskidsmuseum.org.
Never miss a local story.
