We went to our first Carolina Railhawks game last Saturday night and had a fantastic time! If you have never been before then I can highly recommend this as a great way to spend an evening with your family or if you have visitors in town. Our children are just about to turn 6, 10 and 13 so finding things to do that keep everyone happy can sometimes be a challenge but a night out at the Railhawks game scored big points with everyone.
The Railhawks home stadium is WakeMed Soccer Park, a beautiful setting lit by local lighting company Cree. The night we attended it was The Taste of The Triangle event, so we enjoyed some local beer from White Street Brewery in Wake Forest, great crepes from Coffee and Crepes, and some BBQ sliders provided by The Chef's Academy. You can tailgate in the parking area before the game and there are also a couple of food stalls inside selling burgers, hotdogs, great hot pretzels cooked on a grill, drinks, beer and ice cream. So having dinner while watching the game is also a great option.
Our seats were right behind the goal so we felt like we were almost sitting on the field. Being that close to the action definitely added an air of excitement, especially when the ball came our way a couple of times. We quickly got into the spirit and before you knew it were all hoarse from cheering on the Railhawks who were playing the Atlanta Silverbacks. We all had a great evening and at the end my son Cole who is 10 confirmed our new official status: "We're Railhawks fans now, right Mom?"
You can check out the Railhawks schedule here. Advance purchase tickets for games range in price from $5.00 for children ages 3-5, up to $26.00 with many options in between. You can also purchase tickets on the day for an extra $2.00 on top of normal prices, making a last minute plan an easy option. Their next home game is on Wednesday, May 28th against the Charlotte Eagles, followed on May 31st by a match up with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. We will be there to cheer on their home-game winning streak.
