Annette Cheney of Raleigh needed a makeover to see herself in a new light. Through diet and exercise, the fitness trainer and food service sales broker lost 50 pounds, but not her negative self image. “When most of your adult life you’ve been a certain weight and you get a lot lighter, it’s hard to get used to,” said Cheney, 52, who teaches classes at the Alexander Family YMCA on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. “I feel dumpy and frumpy, but I don’t want to be a shrinking violet.” I showed her how to dress her fitter physique and express her fun, vibrant personality.
Cheney’s outfit lacked the bright color and sparkle that she likes. She matched dark pants with a white sweater that did not complement her warm skin tone. The scarf added a pop of color, but the way she tied it concealed her sleek neckline. Her hairstyle needed a better shape to frame her lovely face.
Laura DeMichiel at Bottega hair studio in Raleigh toned down the redness in Cheney’s hair to give it a softer tone and added chunky Balayage highlights to add dimension. A trendier cut modernized the shape. Glo minerals cosmetics gave Cheney a sophisticated look.
We gave Cheney a stylish, casual look for a night out. Paperwhite ankle pants with a black-and-white windowpane pattern show off her legs and contrast nicely with the fringed Sam Edelman clutch bag. The BCBG boatneck tunic top with high-low hem adds pretty color near her face, and the Bittersweet Designs button briolette necklace fills in the neckline. Isola sandals keeps her leg line sleek and long.
In the dressier look, Cheney is elegant in a Nicole Miller midi-length patterned sheath. Sam Edelman pointed-toe, ankle-strap sandals with a comfortable 2-inch heel finish the look.
Kudos to Bottega hair studio for providing a free hairstyling and makeup session that brought out Cheney’s natural beauty. She felt pampered and pretty and enjoyed taking time for herself. Cheney loved the outfits and decided to buy the Isola gold-bar sandals from Kristen’s to continue updating her image. “I really enjoyed shopping and finding cute outfits,” she said. “I am grateful to you for making it happen.”
