There are many facets to Cam Newton. He’s an MVP quarterback (just wait and see) who has led the Carolina Panthers to this Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the Denver Broncos. He’s SuperCam, who gives footballs to kids in the stands after every touchdown and visits sick youngsters in hospitals. And he’s a dabbin’, back-flippin’-into-the-end-zone team leader – the most exciting showman in the game today.
He’s also our style hero.
He’s our style hero because of his confidence and fierce individuality. Newton exudes such self-assurance that even the crazy looks – the striped Versace jeggings, the fox tails – kind of work. That unfortunate capris pant situation in September aside, the dude’s sense of style is on point.
The 26-year-old made his love for fashion apparent when he signed a deal with Charlotte-based Belk department stores in 2012 for his own clothing line, MADE by Cam Newton. That love for fashion is still obvious to anyone paying even the slightest attention to his outfits as he travels to away games or speaks at postgame news conferences.
In a recent story on the ESPN Go website, GQ magazine’s “Style Guy” Mark Anthony Green talked about Newton’s fashion sense.
“Cam’s style is a lot like his style of play,” Green told ESPN.com. “I know that seems a little cliché, but it really, really is. It’s brash. It’s a little peacocky. It’s boastful, especially when he does his very preppy Southern thing as a Southern guy.
“But for the most part it’s pretty good. Everything fits good. He wears a suit better than any football player in the league.”
Choosing just six Cam Newton looks for this spread was extremely difficult, but a few of our favorites are below. (You can see more great photos in the slideshow at the top of this page.)
