Jujube shares earthy soup

I love the food at Jujube in Chapel Hill, especially the Spicy Oyster Mushroom Curry Soup. Would Charlie Deal share the recipe? -- S.J., Wilson

At once earthy and exotically vibrant, this soup is one prime example of the Asian-inspired fare that owner/chef Charlie Deal cooks up at Jujube (1201-L Raleigh Road; 960-0555; www.jujuberestaurant.com). Star Anise-Braised Beef is another. Deal generously shares both recipes.

Star Anise-Braised Beef These ribs go great with stir-fried greens and mashed potatoes, Charlie Deal says. He also suggests: "At Jujube, we often remove the meat from the bones, shred it up, mix two-to-one with goat cheese, and add a little cilantro" for a wonton filling. 6 beef short ribs (see Note)
