A dinner to help a sous chef’s daughter go to college

Six Raleigh women chefs are hosting a dinner Sunday night to help a young women be the first in her family to go to college.

Six women chefs are cooking a five-course dinner Sunday night to help one of their sous chef’s daughters be the first in her family to go to college.

The event called Women for Women will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Flanders Gallery in downtown Raleigh.

The dinner will benefit Karla Salgado, the daughter of a sous chef who works for Angela Salamanca from Centro restaurant in downtown Raleigh. Salgado graduated from Broughton High School and got a partial scholarship to Meredith College, explained Danielle Centeno, one of the organizing chefs. Centeno says they hope the dinner will raise enough money to cover the young women’s remaining costs.

“For Angela and I, as immigrant women, this is cause close to home,” Centeno explained.

The dinner is being cooked by Salamanca, Centeno of Escazu Artisan Chocolates, Charlotte Coman of Poole’s Downtown Diner, Caroline Morrison of Fiction Kitchen, Christy Preddy of Green Planet Catering and Cheetie Kumar of Garland.

The wine, made by female winemakers, is being donated by Wine Authorities and beer is being donated by Fullsteam Brewery.
