Butcher Block American Grill opens in North Raleigh

The owners of Bella Italia open a new restaurant in the same North Raleigh shopping center.

Carlo Nicolazza, owner/chef of Bella Italia in North Raleigh, has teamed up with his wife Amy to open Butcher Block American Grill in the same shopping center. The new counter service eatery will showcase the cooking skills of the American-born Amy Nicolazza, while her husband continues to focus on the Italian restaurant.

Barbecued beef brisket and half-pound Angus chuck burgers are early best-sellers on a menu that Amy Nicolazza describes as “American comfort food.” Rotisserie chicken, marinated simply in olive oil, rosemary, salt and pepper, is another popular option. Nicolazza is especially proud of her meat loaf, which she says is made with a blend of ground beef, pork and caramelized onions, wrapped in bacon to keep it juicy.

A steam table displays a tempting assortment of home-cooked sides. Mashed potatoes are the real thing, and fries are cut in house. Anyone having trouble deciding between, say, collard greens and creamed spinach is welcome to a sample taste.

The bar offers a modest selection of wines and four draft beers, all locally brewed.

Butcher Block American Grill (10630 Durant Road; 919-846-9100; on.fb.me/1kA99HA) is open Tuesday-Sunday for lunch and dinner.
