James Beard award-winning chef Norman Van Aken is cooking the gala dinner at this year’s Pinehurst Food and Wine Festival over Labor Day weekend.

Aken, known as the “father of New World cuisine” at his restaurant, Norman’s, in Miami, will be cooking the Saturday night dinner. He also will be talking from his books, “No Experience Necessary: A Memoir” and “My Key West Kitchen: Recipes & Stories.”

The three-day event features more than 90 wineries, wine classes, tastings, cooking demonstrations and meals. The cost for the weekend with overnight accommodations starts at $295. Info:
