This year’s N.C. State Fair has several new deep-fried offerings, including barbecue, bananas Foster and mini cupcakes.
The Ragin’ Cajun booth will be selling deep-fried bananas Foster, that classic New Orleans dessert where bananas are sauteed in rum and brown sugar and served with vanilla ice cream. (No details on how it will be prepared at the fair.)
Chester's Gators & Taters near Kiddieland will be offering deep-fried rice krispies treats.
State Fair Foods of Salisbury will be offering deep-fried barbecue, chopped pork dipped in a cornmeal hush puppy batter, served with coleslaw or barbecue slaw.
Chef’s D’Lites will be serving deep-fried mini cupcakes.
S2Concessions, who previously did deep-fried Girl Scout cookies, will be offering deep-fried mini red velvet doughnuts.
Miss Debbie’s Specialty Apples has a new line of apples featuring Krispy Kreme doughnuts called “Angry Gobstoppers.”
The Giant Gummy Bear folks will be offering new flavors: cotton candy, pumpkin spice, cinnamon and buttered popcorn.
La Farm bakery in Cary will have its food truck on site selling fresh bread, including a Piedmont Sourdough made from wheat grown and milled in North Carolina.
In other food news at the state fair:
• The N.C. Cattlemen’s Association will no longer be selling rib-eye sandwiches; a new vendor will be selling sirloin tips in the same location.
