Award-winning Southern food writer John T. Edge will lead a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Monday at Raleigh’s Meredith College about how traditional Southern cuisine is being influenced by the influx of immigrants to the region.
Edge is the director of Southern Foodways Alliance, a nonprofit based at the University of Mississippi that documents, studies and celebrates the region’s food traditions. He also writes regularly for Garden and Gun, Southern Living and Oxford American magazines.
The event will include the debut of a short film, “Cortes Finos,” by Vittles Films, which focuses on Cliff’s Meat Market in Carrboro.
The panel includes farmers Jamie DeMent and Richard Holcomb of Coon Rock Farm, chefs Ricky Moore of Saltbox Seafood Joint in Durham, Ashley Christensen of Poole’s and several other restaurants in Raleigh, Andrea Reusing of Lantern in Chapel Hill, and Scott Crawford of the upcoming Standard Foods and Nash Tavern.
The event is free but tickets are required and can be reserved online: johntedgeatmeredith.brownpapertickets.com/.
